Internship FAQs

What responsibilities will I have as an intern?

Well Being is a busy retreat center with retreats most weekends, year-round. A core part of what we do is provide healthy and nutritious meals for retreat groups. Interns will help with gardening, food preparation, cooking and kitchen cleaning during retreats. There may also be opportunities for landscape and maintenance work, dependent on skill levels and interest.

Do I need  any prior skills or work experience to be an intern?

Prior skills and work experience are welcome, but not necessary. Most important is that you have a can-do attitude, are flexible, open, and willing to work with others as part of a team. Interns will have the opportunity to develop personal skills and confidence, and learn the values of the center throughout the duration of the program. â€‹

What are the benefits of interning at Well Being Retreat Center?

All of the work at Well Being supports its mission in promoting harmony with nature, wellness of body and peace of mind. As an intern you will have a in-depth opportunity to explore these values and cultivate them in your own life.

  • Nature: You will be living and working on 160-acres of beautiful land, surrounded by nature.

  • Wellness of Body: You will have the opportunity to prepare and eat healthy, delicious and mostly organic meals and learn the principles which underpin Well Being's food service.

  • Peace of Mind: As well as benefiting from the natural peace which comes from being in nature, you will have the opportunity to attend Well Being's own events free of charge while you are here.

How much am I expected to work?

Interns can expect to work five days a week, which will generally include weekends when retreats are happening. The minimum duration for internship is four weeks.

Where will I stay?

Interns will stay in a private cabinnette, which is a short walk to the main conference building, where bathrooms are located. Interns will also have access to the conference building kitchen for food. You can find out more about our cabinettes here.

Will food be provided during my stay?

Yes, all food will be provided during your stay (except for specialty items). You will be responsible for preparing your own breakfast and lunch, except during retreats when all meals will be prepared and served. For retreats we prepare both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals.

Who will I be working with?

Interns will have the opportunity to work with different members of Well Being's staff. In the kitchen they will work closely with Barbara, the kitchen manager.  Gardening and landscape maintenance  will be guided by Don.

Can I bring my dog or cat or other pet?

No, we ask that dogs or cats not be brought onto Well Being's land out of respect to native animals. (Dogs chase deer, tend to bark at guests and can host ticks. Cats are hard on songbirds.)

When is the best time to intern?

We accept interns from March through to October each year.
